Branch argues for a campaigning union

The Oxford branch has responded to a consultation over the structure of the union with a call to focus on promoting action rather than messing with structures.

The Oxford branch has responded to a consultation over the structure of the union with a call to focus on promoting action rather than messing with structures.
The structure review was considered necessary in light of the major changes in the industry – globalisation, casualisation and rapid technological developments. It aimed to see what changes, if any, are needed to ensure that members are able to get the best from the union and are able to give their best to the union in the 21st century.
In its response, the branch points out that campaigns such as Stand Up for Journalism proved highly effective at mobilising members, and focusing on mobilising members locally around similar campaigns and actions would be far more productive than spending months trying to find the perfect geographical spread of branches. The review document can be found on the NUJ website The branch response can be found on the branch website www.oxnuj.org uk, click on Documents on the left-hand menu.
