It was nice to see so many branch members there, on a warm, if not sunny, evening on the banks of the Thames.
Branch secretary Anna Wagstaff paid tribute to the help and support John had given the branch over the years, as well as the important role he played in the wider union which had helped the NUJ emerge from a difficult period as one of the strongest, youngest and most energetic unions within the British labour movement.
The branch presented John and his wife Carol with a signed photo from last September’s Stand Up for Journalism event, which embodied the spirit of the sort of strong, collective, campaigning union John has always stood for. AW 2008-09-04
