About usThe Oxford branch of the National Union of Journalists has around 400 members working in all parts of the media. Academic Books/journals The historic university city of Oxford has a long tradition of academic publishing. The branch has individual members at all bar the smallest publishing houses. It has NUJ chapels at Macmillan Education and Taylor and Francis, where the union is recognised, and Pearson Schools, where the NUJ is applying for recognition. Broadcasting There is a BBC chapel at Radio Oxford, in Summertown, which covers radio, TV and online. The chapel is covered by a national agreement between the BBC and the NUJ. We also have members at ITV's Thames Valley newsroom in Abingdon. Local newspapers The Oxford Mail, Oxford Times and Oxford Star, as well as the Bicester Advertiser, the Witney Gazette, the Banbury Cake and the Herald series (Wantage, Abingdon, Didcot, Grove) are all published by Newsquest Oxfordshire. Members at all these titles are grouped within the Oxford Mail chapel, which is the largest chapel in the branch. The branch also has a chapel at the Oxford Courier and Journal, privately owned, and has members at the Banbury Guardian, owned by Johnston. Freelances The Oxford branch has around 60 freelance members: photographers, writers, editors, broadcasters, subs, researchers and more.
Magazines Oxford is also home to New Internationalist where we have a chapel. It is run as a collective.
