BBC Oxford Staff protest to keep corporation's independence

Staff at the BBC in Oxford have been demonstrating in support of the corporation's independence, in the wake of the Hutton report into the death of the Southmoor scientist, Dr David Kelly.

Around 50 workers from the BBC in Oxford gathered in the rain outside it's studio's in Summertown for two hours on Thursday 5 February.

They were joined by members of the National Union for Journalists in Oxfordshire who organised the action.

Passing traffic sounded their horns and various passers-by stopped to show their support.

Protesters held placards with the the words "Defend the BBC" and "Hands off the BBC. They say they want to support the corporation's independence after the publication of Lord Hutton's report, and the subsequent resignation of the BBC's Director General Greg Dyke.
